About Us
Our Beginnings
What is known today as the Grand Bank Regional Theatre began as an idea by a few individuals of the community. They thought it would be nice to “put off a show” about the local history. Thirty years later, the GBRT is still producing some of the best theatre Newfoundland and Labrador has to offer. Come visit us this summer for a full slate of new and exciting shows!
Our Mission
We create, develop and produce dynamic Newfoundland and Labrador theatrical works with a special emphasis on the stories and heritage of Grand Bank and the Burin Peninsula.
We are an integral part of the province’s professional artistic community.
We offer artists, residents and tourists in the region vibrant and original plays that are rich in humor, tradition, and music.
We maintain a performance space which can be used by the community to enrich and prolong the cultural and artistic heritage of the region.
We contribute to the development of an emerging artistic community for our region and Province.
Our Growth
What started as an idea by a small group of people 30 years ago has grown into a not-for-profit organization called Lighthouse Productions, Inc. that is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. For the last two decades, we have run a Summer Festival, producing plays and dinner theatre performances from the start of July to the end of August and hosting special events, visiting artists, and a season finale gala each year.
In 2018, with the support of the Town of Grand Bank and the Grand Bank Development Corporation, we were able to purchase our own building, the former Pentecostal Temple, which we renamed "The Stage". Productions today are staged in a modern theatre with continually improving permanent lighting, sound and an extensive costume and prop library. For the last two years, we have been developing a vibrant Off-Season, hosting community events, plays and performances featuring local talent, and a highly successful, 8-week Improv program for youth.
We are excited about our future and invite you to be a part of it!
